Jhalen Ascue Biotechnical Engineering 3rd Block 10 October 2012 Lab Report James Davis was murdered on Wednesday October 3, 2012. He was stabbed by a pen in the back at approximately 12:57-1:26. He was either murdered by Preston Walker or James Kennedy during this time. There is also a possible suspect that KEVIN SNEED framed either one of these gentleman the man was on the floor in a t-shirt, jeans, with no shoes. A bloody pen was found next to his body, and there was a blood trail coming in from the back lab door. No one was there to witness the murder. The victim had a blood trail coming from the door, but his dead body was facing the door. This confirms that the victim saw his killer, and there even could have been a struggle before the murder. There were 3 strands of hair found at the crime scene. Hair strand number 3 was identical to James Kennedys hair. The hair strand number 2 was pulled from an animal. This animal could have been a dog, but this hair could have been from any type of animal as James Daviss profession was a veterinarian. He did not have his lab coat on as this is indicative of the fact that he was not working when he was murdered. Hair strand number one was not suspicious of anyone but to the naked eye, it looked a lot like Preston Walkers hair. We put the hair under a microscope to analyze them and we also did some research on hair from different types of animals. At the end of the hair analysis my suspects were Jimmy, Preston, and Casey. The whole class took their fingerprints just like everybody took their hair. We had 3 fingerprints given to us. We studied different types of DNA finger patterns common in Homo

sapiens. In the fingerprints that were given to us, there were 3 Deltas, 1 Central Pocket loop, and 2 regular loops. It seemed as if all of the fingerprints were taken from the same person, and the fingers that were given to us were the index finger, the thumb, and the middle finger. Although each of these prints have different patterns, which is slightly uncommon in homo sapiens. Some of the fingerprints that were given to us by the students werent that good as people made very common mistakes, such as putting someone elses fingerprints on your paper. At the end of the fingerprint analysis, my possible suspects were Mattson, Erin, Logan, Corey, Jimmy, Westen, Tyler, and Preston. The final part of our crime scene forensics were DNA analysis. To analyze our DNA samples, we used gel electrophoresis. This was a very long, complicated, tedious, and fun process. We used sample gels to help us put the DNA correctly while it was under water. We also used a buffer. The buffer was made out of something very similar to salt water, the only difference is that the buffer we used allowed electricity to flow through it very easily. We also had a stand that we used that could hold the gel, the buffer, and send electric currents through the water at the same time. We let the Gels, run during our lunch time, which was approximately 30 minutes. This process confirmed that James Kennedy was the killer of James Davis, he murdered him with a pen that he stabbed him in the back with at 12:57 1:26 pm.
