Brittany Basile EDEL 441 Final Class Reflection Part 1

Artifact 1: MY critique of Nevada State Standards The artifact I feel best demonstrates my progress in teaching physics is the critique of the Nevada state standards. This artifact shows my new-found understanding of the structure and components within the Common Core physical science standards. This assignment gave me the opportunity to compare our standards against National standards and see when and how children should be progressing in their understanding of physical science. This artifact also demonstrates my level of achievement within Domain 1: Planning and preparation, component 1a: demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy. My critique of the standards allowed me to get a more in-depth look at what students are expected to learn and what I am expected to teach students about physical students. This in-depth look and reflection of the standards demonstrates my level of achievement within domain 1 by me being able to now, share my knowledge of content and my knowledge of content-related pedagogy with my future students.

Artifact 2: Web-Based Assignment 3 I chose this artifact because it was through this assignment that I deepened my understanding in Newtons Laws of Motion. Before this class, I wasnt very strong in understanding physical science concepts much less understanding how I can teach these concepts to my future students. This was the assignment that helped me to realize that there are some really great activities that we can do with students to explain these physical science concepts. For example, we read about the different laws of motion for this web based assignment and watched the animations that helped explain the concept. However, it wasnt until we did the activity in class with

the egg, empty paper towel roll and jar of water that the concept of inertia really made sense to me. This made me realize the importance of allowing students to be hands-on and allowing them to visualize, especially in physical science. I think this assignment demonstrated my achievement within Domain 1 by being able to strengthen my knowledge on these key physics concepts so that I am better able to demonstrate my knowledge of physical science content and my knowledge of content-related pedagogy in my future classroom.
