Joseph Squire Sub: Aviso Op. Sec.

A Eulogy And so their time has come, the trays of Malone have gotten their one-way ticket. They've gone the way of the dodo bird, won one for the Reaper, shuffled off this mortal coil. Students and Faculty, I'm sad to say, but Malone's trays are gone for good. No Lazarus experience this time around. I must admit I liked my tray. I also must admit I miss him too. However, I do appreciate the timely manner in which AVI allowed them to cash in their chips. It's much easier coming back from a summer break, where our dear beloved trays have been absent from our minds, to find them passed on. It's less of an emotional roller coaster than the "Tray-less Tuesdays" of last semester, where every week, on every Tuesday, a reminder was thrust upon the student body of Malone as to the fleeting mortality of our trays. The new dining hall will most likely be graced by more spills this year with the absence of our trays, a grand way of ushering it into its freshman year of life here at Malone. So, I encourage you, whenever you see a new stain on the floor or hear the echoing clatter of plastic hitting hard ground throughout your lunchtime routine, think of the trays. Remember them fondly for they served us well and in many situations, from carrying plates to bearing bodies. Remember their willingness to put up with being snuck out of their home for a semester of employment elsewhere on campus and, above all, remember they were willing to do whatever was asked of them. They were true servants, of the likes we can take a lesson or two from, and they will be missed dearly. However, the word from on high is that it is for the best, that our environment will prosper with the passing of our trays, yet, we grieve. We grieve because the trays were more than just trays to us here at Malone and melted, broken plastic is all that remains of them, something no one can put a consolatory reason to. So, with heavy heart, I must conclude by saying, Godspeed you winsome, courageous trays to wherever the metal confines of your dumpster take you.
