Assignment#1
Reservoir Rock Properties
sample weighs 41.250 gm. It is saturated with water, of sp. gr.=1. A second weighing of the sample gives a weight of 43.165 gm. What is the porosity of the sample?
2. A clean and dry core weighing 425 gm was 100% saturated with 1.07
specific gravity brine. The new weight is 453 gm. The core is 12 cm long and 4 cm in diameter. Calculate the core porosity.
3. Calculate the porosity of a core sample when the following data is
available: Wt. of the dry sample = 427.3 gm Wt. of sample saturated by water = 448.6 gm Water density = 1.00 gm/cc Wt. of water saturated sample immersed in water = 269.5 gm What is the lithology of the sample? Is the porosity effective or absolute?
4. Calculate the porosity and determine the lithology for a core has the
following data: Length = 50 mm, diameter = 35 mm, Wt. of the dry sample = 104.1 gm, Wt. of the sample (100% saturated with water) immersed in water = 64.8 gm, Water density = 1.00 gm/cc. Is this absolute or effective porosity?
5. A cubic centimeter of a sandstone sample is placed in an air filled vessel
whose volume and pressure are 10 cc and 750 mmHg, respectively. The vessel is seated and a stop-cock turned so that the air can expand into a second evacuated vessel whose volume is also 10 cc. The final pressure in the two vessels is 361.4 mmHg. Calculate the porosity of the sample. Is this absolute or effective porosity?
