RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
MWANGI ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE LABORATORY: Research Assistant Fall 2012 - Present  Diagnose mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in MRSA (multi-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) related to ppGpp. HEDGES EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY LABORATORY: Research Assistant Fall 2011 – Winter 2012  Examined genetic and morphological variation among populations of individual species of Hispaniolan frogs (particularly in the genus Eleutherodactylus).  Completed a 10-week research initiative from May to August 2011, examining and cataloguing 14 species of frogs, extracting and purifying DNA, and creating phylogenetic trees to compare sequence data. HONORS BIOLOGY- MOLECULES & CELLS: Independent Studies Fall 2011  Performed independent research on variation in mammalian alcohol dehydrogenase genes between Peromyscus leucopus populations throughout Oklahoma.  Used information from GenBank to design custom primers to isolate exons for testing.

NONE OF THE ABOVE: Business Manager & President Spring 2012 – Present  Responsible for arranging performance events, booking concerts and rehearsal spaces, and managing all of the business operations of Pennsylvania State University’s oldest a cappella group. SCHREYER HONORS COLLEGE ORIENTATION: Lead Mentor Fall 2012 - Present  Responsible for planning and enacting the entirety of the Class of 2017 Honors College freshman orientation.  Supervise and coordinate with both University faculty and over a hundred other students in developing the three day orientation. THE PENN STATE THESPIANS: Historian & Alumni Liaison Summer 2012 - Present  Coordinate with the University to preserve records of annual events and productions for future generations.  Communicate with the organization’s alumni advisory board to plan reunions and interactive events between members past and present.  Oversee and communicate with chairpersons from each of the organization’s eight committees to ensure the welfare of the organization as a whole and resolve issues. HONORS BIOLOGY: Teaching Assistant Summer & Fall 2012  Instructor for laboratory component of BIOL 110H: Honors Basic Concepts and Biodiversity at Pennsylvania State University.  Led sections of 24 students in various introductory experiments & exercises.  Responsible for developing presentations, quizzes, and educational materials for students. SCHREYER HONORS COLLEGE ORIENTATION: Academic Chair Spring & Summer 2011-2012  Coordinated a committee of 20 individuals in planning a variety of academicbased events for the Class of 2015 & 2016 Honors College freshman orientations.  EVENTS: Book discussions, information sessions, and educational interactive technology experiences
