Definition
A server is a computer that manages the flow of data through a network; there are several types of servers and run by using special server software. A computer that stores websites and makes them available on the Internet. FTP is used to upload files to a web server and HTTP is used to download a file from a web server. A computer that sends and receives emails over the Internet stores them and makes them available to users. A computer that acts as an intermediary for requests from users computers seeking resources from other servers. The proxy server filters some of the data flowing from the Internet to the users computer. It also speeds things up by caching (storing) some pages and files that are used a lot, avoiding frequent requests to the web server for the same files. A piece of hardware that links two networks together. The router will take the data from the modem and redirect it to the correct devices in the local network. A software program that allows users to view and interact with websites on their computers. The request identifies the page by its Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The HTML code for that page is then transmitted over the Internet. Browsers also allow users to store their URLs as their favourites, provide a history list of sites visited and zoom in/out of the web page. A means for sending and receiving digital messages to/from specific users of the Internet. Email can be accessed using two different methods, first method is an email client which is a specialist software package, such as Microsoft outlook can be installed on your computer, and emails received are downloaded and stored on your computer. Another method is web mail which allows you to access your emails entirely on the web using a webmail account from any computer that is connected to the internet. Web 2.0 is a concept that takes the network as a platform for information sharing A blog is a discussion or information site published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first.

A social networking service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among people who, for example, share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections. A video hosting service allows individuals to upload video clips to an Internet website. The video host will then store the video on its server, and show the individual different types of code to allow others to view this video. The website, mainly used as the video hosting website, is usually called the video sharing website. Micro blogging is a broadcast medium in the form of blogging. A micro blog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically smaller in both actual and aggregate file size. A personal computer (PC) in a form intended for regular use at a single location. A personal computer (PC) designed for mobile use that is small and light enough to sit on a person's lap while in use. A tablet-shaped mobile computer device, equipped with a touchscreen or stylus. A portable telephone that connects with the telephone network permitting the user to make voice calls, text messaging and access to a variety of Internet services. An interactive entertainment computer system that can be used with a display device to display a video game. An electronic device that is capable of storing and playing digital media, such as audio, images, video and documents.
