Lab p. 27, Cheek Inv, is helpful, but need to turn Ribbon of Life, pp.

28-29, into more of an inquiry activity. Maybe pose fewer, more open-ended questions or let students come up with some.

I will be able to describe how all organisms are made of cells and that all cells carry out the life functions. Investigation 4 includes the cheek cell act as well as multimedia activities that can be extended with Cells Alive!

Vol 1, Is it Made of Cells, p. 131.

Can be used as a formative assessment to see if students are learning how to use their microscopes: pp. 9, 11, 12, 13 & 15 of lab book.

Use paramecia and miniponds (brine shrimp and elodea too) and have teams design their own experiments on what they want to learn. Use Inquiry Boards. (We can also get benthic macros from creek.)

Vol 3, Cells and Size, p. 117

For investigation 3, Microscopic Life, students will be discovering cells and working with paramecia, amoebae and euglena. Many chances to extend the kit labs with technology and inquiry boards. Students need to design their own experiments. Microscope activities fro investigation 2. Begins with getting to know the microscope and how to use it. Ends with observing brine shrimp and elodea. Follow lessons as they are laid out.

Lab book pages 16, 17. (Page 19 is a great formative assessment prompt!) Also in this inv use pages 20, 21, 23. End with the minipond safari, p. 25, which could lead into the next inquiry activity.
