Chaminade University

OF HONOLULU

November 15,2012 Fellow Educator: During the 2012 fall session I had the pleasure of observing Hannah Smith teaching third grade at Schweinfurt Middle and Elementary School in Germany. There she completed requirements for her student teaching internship at Chaminade University of Honolulu in elementary education. Observations and communications were made possible through SKYPE conference, web sites, many videos, live texts, and emails. Hannah was an effective and capable teacher. She was thorough and systematic in implementing her lessons because of effective planning and organization. She developed and implemented many standard based lessons that engaged her students in various appropriate experiences to increase their learning. Hannah's forte was her knowledge of technology for engaging students in using a range of technology tools to access, interpret, evaluate, and apply information. She incorporated this in literary centers and core subjects in the third grade level curriculum. Moreover, she designed a web site for parents and community to view current activities, newsletter, videos, homework assignments and other pertinent information. During the observations Hannah demonstrated a positive attitude toward her students and established an excellent rapport with them, as well as with her cooperating teacher. Students respected and cooperated with Hannah. From the video observations she has established and maintained classroom management for there were no issues or concerns with student discipline. I recommend Hannah as an elementary teacher, grades kindergarten through grade six, knowing that she would be an asset to any school faculty because of her technological skills, her systematic, organized approach toward teaching, and her commitment to the teaching profession. She has also completed her exit portfolio to demonstrate competency in the Hawaii Professional Teaching Standards as required for certification in teaching. Sincerely,
