Introduction:
In our Y8 statistics project, each person has to create a research question and research on it. Then after they have done their research, they have to create a report of the data collected. I did a research about how far can people throw a tennis ball. In this report I will inform you about how I did my research and the end result of my research.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Do girls throw tennis balls

farther than boys?

HYPOTHESIS: I think that boys will throw tennis balls

farther than girls. I think this because boys are more active than girls and people who do a lot of sports gain muscle.

WHY I CHOSE THIS: I chose this topic because I want to

see if being more active can affect your performance while doing sports. I chose throwing a tennis ball as a sport because it involves only the arm and it wouldnt be fair to the girls if it involved both.

DATA COLLECTION:
I got my data by asking 5 people from each gender in 8A to come and throw a tennis ball 3 times. I only did this to get my data so there is a very high chance that my data is inaccurate since I only got 5 girls from 8A and 5 boys from 8A. If I ever have the same research question again, I would rather change it so that I would compare girls with girls from other classes and boys with boys from other classes. I will do this because comparing the opposite gender about a sport is unfair due to ability level and fitness level. 1

REFLECTION BY LOOKING AT THE TABLE:

By looking at the table, I know automatically that boys throw farther than girls since all the boys throw shortest throw for the boys is 20m while the farthest throw done by the girls is 15m. The mean for the boys is 25.1m while the mean for the girls is 13.6m.The median of my data set is 19.38m. The mode of the data set is 14m. The range of the data set is 18.4m.

GRAPH:
My Graph is comparing how far girls and boys can throw a tennis ball. I chose a column graph because it is easy to show the information. This graph contains the same information as the table I showed before but this time it is the mean of each gender.

ANALYSIS:
By looking at the graph above, you can clearly tell that boys can throw a lot farther than girls. Out of all the graphs I experimented with I chose this one because it is the most clear. When I look at this graph I can automatically tell that the girls average throw is around 13 meters and I can also tell that the boys average throw is 25 meters. (mean of each gender)

COMMENTS AND EXPLANATION:

The Answer to the research Question & Hypothesis: After collecting and organizing my data, I have finally got the answer of my research question Do girls throw tennis balls farther than boys? As you can see in the graphs and tables included, girls do not throw tennis balls farther than boys. My hypothesis was correct since I thought that boys will throw farther than girls because boys are more active and boys are more muscular than girls.

COMMENT ON THE DATA COLLECTION METHOD: The method for data collection was successful. I know this because I was able to gather my information in less than 1 class period for both genders. Next time, I would like to increase the amount of people coming out and doing my survey because it would improve the accuracy of the survey. IMPROVEMENTS: Next time I need to improve on having more people to do my survey so that my information will be more accurate. I also think that I need to improve on my Microsoft Excel skills so that I could create a more affective graph. I also would like to improve on time managing skills so that I dont have to rush people when they are throwing the ball.

CONCLUSION:
I chose to do a research on boys and girls throwing a tennis ball. I chose this topic because I want to see if being more
active can affect your performance while doing sports. I chose throwing a tennis ball as a sport because it involves only the arm and it wouldnt be fair to the girls if it involved both legs and arms. My research question was Do girls throw tennis balls farther than boys? and my hypothesis was that boys will throw farther than girls due to the boys being more active. According to the results of the 10 people I surveyed, my hypothesis was correct. However, this couldve been incorrect since I only surveyed 1/12th of year 8. If I surveyed the whole of year 8 I dont know if my hypothesis was correct or incorrect. To improve my results, I would need to increase the amount of girls and boys surveyed to make it more accurate. If I did this I would get the truth instead of just a using a small proportion of the whole year and making it the correct answer.
