FOREWORD
‘The complex art of machine gunnery is described in
many War Department documents not all of which are
readily available to the elementary stadent.
The purpose of this handbook is to provide under one
cover a simple compilation of essentials, It is not prepared
to serve as a leader's text and therefore covers the more ad-
vanced subjects only briefly. It is mainly designed to serve
as a pocket reference for the individual soldier. The latest
War Department texts and illustrations have been used io
its preparation. On the other hand, it must not be regarded
as an official manual.
