CANINE MUSCULOSKELETAL PATHOLOGY REPORT Gross description: Examined is the body of a male entire Collie dog, weighing 18.

0 kg. There is tartar over the molar teeth, tooth 304 has a transverse fracture, and the lower incisor teeth are broken or worn with exposed pulp. A rectangular area of skin over the right cephalic vein has been clipped. There are multiple small faucal balls in the fur around the perineum. On musculoskeletal exam there is significant crepitus on manipulation of both hip joints. On prosection the right hip shows significant flattening, with eburnation of the cartilage over the head of the femur. The femoral ligament, and ligamentous and tendinous attachments around the joint are thickened and fibrosed, with multiple osteophytes present within the joint capsule. The left hip shows similar changes to those in the right hip, but the femoral head is more severely misshapen and flattened. The liver has irregular margins, and has three masses present within it, one in the accessory lobe, one in the main body, and one in the left caudal lobe. The masses are uniform, similar in color to, but slightly softer than the surrounding parenchyma, roughly spherical in shape, and are approximately 3.0 cm in diameter. There are multiple 2.0-3.0 mm diameter pale foci across the surface of the liver. The bile is granular in consistency. There are tan nodules diffusely distributed throughout the pancreas. A small grey nodule 0.5 cm in diameter is present in the right cranial lung lobe, and contains a small black focus measuring 1.0-2.0 mm in diameter in the center. A soft, pale, thin walled circular lesion is present in the left cranial lung lobe. A red 2.0 mm diameter spherical mass is present within the left adrenal gland medulla. A significant amount of stable froth is present in the right mainstem bronchus and continues distally. The heart has a grossly rounded appearance, and there are multiple solid nodules present along the edges of the mitral valve. Gross and final diagnoses: Hip joints: Severe, chronic, bilateral osteoarthritis with eburnation and osteophytes. Heart, mitral valve: Mild endocardiosis. Lungs: Edema. Liver masses: Multiple hepatomas. Pancreas: Nodular acinar hyperplasia. Adrenal medulla: Presumptive pheochromocytoma. Teeth: Fractured lower right canine. Comment: The severity of the degenerative changes in the hips seems likely to have caused most of the described clinical signs. Other findings listed and described above were likely incidental.
