Farming Technology Adapted: a. Intensification Diversified Farming

Diversified farming is the maximum utilization of land resources by

which various farming activities systems are implemented in one cropping season. This is manifested by planting different agricultural crops coupled with raising animals like cow, swine/pig, poultry and fish ( Tilapia).

b. Farmer Scientists Training Program

This is community-based approach in research study by which farmers in the different locality plant different varieties of agricultural crops applied with different farming technologies. The farmer will then choose the best farming technology of a certain crop which he feels very applicable and adaptable in his area considering soil and climate conditions and less production cost.

c. Farmers Field School Training Program

It is a mono cropping technology using high yielding variety with the maximum utilization of fertilizers either inorganic or organic capable of producing four to seven tons per hectare. This is a farming technology of field crops planted in the furrow with 25 50 cm. planting distance between hills plus the integration of pest management - a way how to control pests and diseases with use of biological organisms.

d. Natural Farming System Technology

The application of natural pesticides and fertilizers in the growing of agricultural crops is known as Natural Farming System Technology. It is an alternative invention of producing organic fertilizers and natural

pesticides using local materials which entails lesser costs of inputs. This is through fermentation of plants with herbs effects which can control insects infestation as well as diseases. It is also capable of improving the growth of a plant which could serve as organic fertilizers or an indigenous microbial organism.

e.

Bio-N Technology

The recent invention of microbial fertilizers coming from Talahib plant discovered by Dr. Mercedes Garcia at U.P. Biotech which is capable of enriching the growth of corn, rice and even vegetables. It is also

called organic fertilizers since there is a live beneficial bacteria which enables to convert the atmospheric nitrogen to be available to the plant for its growth. This is an organic fertilizer as a substitute of nitrogen source which is advantageous to farmers in terms of reducing his production cost. f.

Other Services of City Agricultural Services:

1. The establishment of Bio-N Mixing Plant in our office deals n helping our farmers for their need of organic fertilizer as one. It supplements the nitrogen source necessary for the groqth of agricultural crops. The existence of this mixing plant will ensure the availability always of Bio-N in a very affordable price. As of its operation last 2005, the produced Bio-N were being distributed to the different parts of Cebu Province. Likewise, the Department of Agriculture Region 7 has ordered from us more or less 150,000 packs until 2007. This bulk of orders were distributed in the Provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and Cebu. It served more than 25,000 numbers of farmers in Central Visayas Region. 2. The City Agricultural Services has farm mechanization program. In line with this program, it has acquired 3 units of 4 wheel heavy tractors to serve our Toledo farmers only. They can avail of this program through the so-called subsidy program wherein the rental services is only 1,500.00 per hectare covering two services: the plowing and harrowing of the farmland. So far, we have the lowest tractor rental per hectare compared anywhere else in the country. Since the start of this program, it served for almost 67 numbers of farmers covering an area of 67 hectares. It has an estimated income of 100,000.00 average per year. 3. Irrigation facility is visible in the barangays of Toledo. It is important component factor to ferry water source in the agricultural lands for the growth of the plants. We have two types of irrigation facilities existed herein: the Communal Irrigation which is found in Cambang-ug,

Canlumampao, Mainggit and Matab-ang; the other one is the Small Water Impounding located in barangay Bunga. The Communal Irrigation Project is given by the National Irrigation Administration which is serving for more than 200 hectares. The Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) is being established by the Department of Agriculture Region 7 covering an area of 35 hectares. There are about 500 farmers who have availed of the projects.

There are Post Harvest Facilities established in Toledo City. The like of Multi-Purpose Drying Pavement from the Department of Agriculture 7 and could be located in 22 barangays. That office also has provided our city 11 pedal type of rice threshers, 4 units water pump and 40 units shallow tube well. All of there were distributed to the 22 barangays. The City Agricultural Services of this city has acquired 2 floating tillers to augment the tractor services in two rice areas. Furthermore, it has acquired also 1 unit of mechanized corn sheller which is now serving corn areas. We have 5 rice and corn mills operating in barangay Poog, Ilihan, Luray 2, Carmen and Bato. All of these mills were being operated by private individuals.
