Become familiar with the format of the test. Know what to expect and you will be less nervous on test day. Answer EVERY question on the test. You do not lose points for guessing on the ACT Limit your time on any one question. All questions are worth the same number of points. If you need a lot of time to answer a question, go on to the next one. Later, you may have time to return to the question you skipped. Keep track of time. Work at a steady pace and remember that you do not have the time to get bogged down on any one question Use your test booklet as scratch paper Mark the questions in your booklet that you skipped and want to return to Read each question carefully. Be sure you know exactly what each question asks Use the answer choices to help you when youre unsure. Remember the correct answer is right there on the page Use POE (process of elimination) to eliminate wrong answer choices Check your answer sheet to make sure you are answering the right question Fill in the circles on your answer sheet completely and in a neat manner Make sure you use a No. 2 pencil. It is very important that you fill in the entire circle on the answer sheet darkly and completely. If you change your response, erase it as completely as possible

60 minutes, 60 questions Roughly 1 minute per question Questions are presented in an increasing order of difficulty Do not get hung up on any one question. If you are struggling with a question, circle it, move on, and come back to it later Guess on all unanswered questions if youre running out of time Note: there is no formula sheet given to students who take the ACT. As a result, you should memorize all of the formulas on the formula sheet provided to you by College Forward

Strategies

for the ACT Math section

Pace yourself you have roughly 1 minute for each question on the math section of the ACT. Do not get hung up on any one question. If you are having trouble answering a given question, move on and return to it later. Solve the Section in 2 passes During the first pass do only the problems that youre sure you know how to do. During the second pass, do all the problems you think you know how to do. For seemingly impossible problems, just guess. If youre running out of time at the end of the section, GUESS. Do not leave any questions unanswered. Use process of elimination to eliminate wrong answer choices. Use the booklet as scratch paper make sure you write all your work down in case you become confused or forget which step of the problem solving process you just completed.

Make sure you are filling the correct corresponding ovals on your answer sheet.
