Know The Earths surface is divided into a series of plates. The different composition of Continental and Pacific Crust. Understand How plates move What happens at different plate margins Be able to Identify different plates and plate margins on a map.
MANTLE Dark coloured, semi-solid rocks. Rich in magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si). Parts of the mantle are slowly moving. The mantle is 2900 km thick.
CRUST Solid rock. . Divided into continental crust (6 km thick) and oceanic crust (35 to 70 km thick). Rich in Silicon (Si)
OUTER CORE Made of nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe). In a liquid state. The Earths magnetism is produced in this zone. 2000 km thick.
INNER CORE Made of Ni and Fe, but in a solid... Temperatures probably over 3000oC. Radius of 1370 km.
