Pre-Assessment Step Four

Students were given a pre-assessment worksheet and a pencil that focused on three main objectives. Before giving the assessment, I introduced the questions and gave examples of how to complete the challenging test format. They were given a rating of an L, M, or H for each objective. (L= low understanding, M= medium understanding, and H= high understanding).

Pre-Assessment Planning For Instruction Objective/Outcome

Student will be able to identify objects in the environment.

Pre-Assessment Strategy
Students were given a pencil and picture prompts showing/ not showing objects that make sound. They were also asked to list four items in the classroom that make sound. If they answered 0-5 questions right they received a L, 6-8 M and 9-10 H.

Summary of Results
In the pre-assessment, 18 students listed at least 610 items correctly.

Implications for Instruction

Most of the students were able to successfully list or label items that make sound. I will not spend as much time teaching how to find and label items that make sound.

Objective/Outcome Students will be able to explain what pitch/ volume is.

Pre-Assessment Strategy Students were given a question asking them to label volume and pitch with the appropriate descriptors. If they were able to match 0-1 they were rated L, 2-3 M, and 4 was rated H.

Summary of Results 16 students had medium or low understanding of volume and pitch. Only 4 had a high understanding.

Implications for Instruction I will need to focus on volume and pitch with more persistence to make sure that they understand the concepts. To do this, I will have to differentiate and reach learners through different modes of learning.

Objective/Outcome Students will demonstrate that objects vibrate to produce sound.

Pre-Assessment Strategy Students were prompted to show how sound traveled from an object to an ear. They were rated based on their ability to complete the drawing, show an ear, object, and sound waves. They were rated an L if they did not complete it, M if the sound waves were present but in an inaccurate area, and H if they included all three.

Summary of Results 16 of the students had medium or low understanding of how sound travels. Four students had high understanding of sound travel and sound waves.

Implications for Instruction This concept may be an area of concern for some students and I will need to review this concept often and with plenty of examples.

Post-Assessment Students were given a post-assessment worksheet that focused on three main objectives that were taught throughout the unit. Before giving the assessment, I reminded them of the format of the worksheet that they had previously done in the pre-assessment. They were given a rating of L, M, or H for each objective. (L=low understanding, M= medium understanding, and H= high understanding). Group Analysis of Student Learning Objective/Outcome

In the post-assessment, 20 (all of the students) listed at least 6-10 items correctly (M-H understanding).

Objective/Outcome 2, Students will be able to explain what pitch/ volume is.

Pre-Assessment Strategy Students were given a question asking them to label volume and pitch with the appropriate descriptors. If they were able to match 0-1 they were rated L, 2-3 M, and 4 was rated H.

Summary of Results 19 students had medium or high understanding of volume and pitch. 11 had a high understanding and 8 had a medium understanding or volume and pitch. Only one student had a low understanding.

Summary of Results All 20 of the students had medium or high understanding of how sound travels. Of the 20, 15 had a high understanding of sound travel.
