March 1, 2013 Science teacher and I have an exciting opportunity to share with you - we hope you will want

to participate! As you may already know, March 14 of each year is often celebrated by number enthusiasts as Pi Day, since the day can be written as 3/14, which is the commonly used decimal approximation for (3.14). In 2009, Congress proclaimed March 14 (3/14) as National Pi Day. In doing so, Congress recognizes the continuing importance of National Science Foundations math and science education programs; and encourages schools and educators to observe the day with appropriate activities that teach students about Pi and engage them about the study of mathematics. We hope you will join us in celebrating Pi Day this year on Thursday, March 14th. The purpose of the day is to
foster creativity in and enjoyment of mathematics. Our Pi Day Station Activities encourage students to participate in mathematics in imaginative, alternative ways.

This special fun day would not be possible without the time and talents generously donated by parent volunteers! We also need 120 tasty pies and juice boxes for the "Eat a little Pi" Station and the pies can be found at Wal-mart for less than $1 each. (More details about the pies will be shared if you plan to donate.) To sign up as a volunteer, please respond with the information requested below by Tuesday, March 12th, 2013.

Your Name_____________________________________ Childs Name_________________________________________ I can help with the math stations on Thursday, March 14th, 2013 from: 10:47-12:17 (5th & 6th Period Math) 12:19-1:49 (7th & 8th Period Math)

I can donate pies for the "Eat a little Pi" Station (indicate how many, they are individual and around $0.58 each) I can donate individual juice boxes for the Eat a little Pi Station (indication how many & what type) (Last year we just did juice and Dixie cups, but that ended up to be a messy decision; we feel juice boxes would be the best and easiest way for the students to have juice to go with their pies!)
