Greek cuisine

Greek cuisine (Greek: ) is a Mediterranean cuisine,sharing characteristics with the cuisines of the Balkans, Turkey, Italy, and the Levant. Contemporary Greek cookery makes wide use of olive oil, vegetables and herbs, grains and bread, wine, fish, and various meats, including poultry, rabbit and pork. Also important are olives, cheese, eggplant (aubergine), zucchini (courgette), and yogurt. Greek desserts are characterized by the dominant use of nuts and honey. Some dishes use filo pastry.

Pastitsio - Baked Pasta with Meat and Bechamel Topping

Pastitsio is typical Greek food.It has a tubular pasta a bottom layer; a middle layer of ground beef with tomato and cinnamon; another layer of pasta and a top layer of sauce .Grated cheese is often sprinkled on top. Pastitso is often served with a salad.

Souvlaki

Souvlaki is a popular Greek fast food consisting of small pieces of meat grilled on a skewer. It may be served on the skewer for eating out of hand or on a dinner plate, often with fried potatoes. The meat usually used is pork.

Pita gyros

A pita gyro is a Greek dish of meat roasted on a vertical spit.This is called and psomaki gyro depending on the type of bread used, with tomato, onion, potatoes and optional sauce (tzatziki) , wrapped in pita or sandwich bread.

Vasilopita

Vasilopita and also called Saint Basil-pie.It is a New Year's Day bread or cake in Greece which contains a hidden coin which gives good luck to the receiver. It is made of a variety of doughs, depending on regional and family tradition.
