IDEA defines it as a communication disorder, such as stuttering, impaired articulation, a language impairment, or a voice impairment, that adversely affects a childs education performance There are two main groups for this disability:
Difficulties with the pitch, volume, or quality of voice Trouble with articulation (framing sounds) Trouble using some speech sounds Leaving out certain sounds Omissions of phonemes (bo for boat) Substitutions for phonemes (wabbit for rabbit) Stuttering
Inability to express ideas Reduced vocabulary Inability to follow directions Improper use of words and their meanings Difficulty in understanding what others are saying Inappropriate grammatical patterns Hard to understand when talking
