The picture walk was a good strategy to help students make inferences about what they would be reading. Your questions helped them to further relate to story content. However, as we discussed, there were opportunities throughout the reading of the story to further expand student thinking about this topic as well as to connect their prior experiences (ex., Disney World) The use of the random selector on your computer for comprehension questions about the story was a very engaging activity for the students. It made them more active participants in the learning. The graphic organizer provided a structure for students to understand main ideas and details. It also was a missed opportunity for you to model the difference between important ideas and supporting details (facts).
