Virtual Memory Settings

The reason why it may seem that the memory is full is due to JAVA reporting functions in OMT. It appears that OMT and JAVA requires that the virtual memory be set to 1.5 times of the installed memory of the computer. For example, if the installed memory on the computer is 512mb, then the virtual memory will need to be set to at least 1.5mb. This explains why we have had this occur randomly on OMT installs and due to the individual settings on the specific computer. Windows XP In order to change the virtual memory settings in Windows XP the user must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure. Click Start, click Run, and then type sysdm.cpl in the Open box. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Performance. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Change under Virtual memory. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, type a new paging file size in megabytes (MB) in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set. Windows 2000 In order to change the virtual memory settings in Windows 2000 the user must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure. Step 1. Open System in Control Panel.
