Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns


Pronouns Personal pronouns Uses Used as the subject of a sentence. (I, you, he, she, it we, they) Used as the object of a sentence. (me, you, him, her, it, us, them) Possessive Used to show possession pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs) Possessive Used to show possession adjectives (my, your, her, its, our, their) Examples The Principal praised Wahid. --- He praised Wahid. The Principal praised Wahid. --- The Principal praised him. This belong to me. It is mine. This is Hasims computer. This is his computer.

Pronouns Uses Examples

Reflexive pronouns

Used to show that action is done by the doer (subject) on himself/herself. I myself You (one person) yourself He himself / She - herself It itself We ourselves You (more than one person) yourselves They themselves
Used to point out things This /These: things that are near That / Those: things that are far

She cut herself when she was gardening.

Demonstrative pronouns

This is a new diskette.

Who is she? What is your name? Where is the bank? When is the examination? Why does ice melt in the sun? Whose wallet is this? How do you bake a cake? How did you do in the examination? How fast can you run?
