HPC Midlands

Industrial Offering HPC Midlands, a new supercomputing facility based at Loughborough Science and Enterprise Park, provides state-of-the-art e-infrastructure for research and industry. The HPC Midlands 3,000 core supercomputer, combined with HPC expertise from Loughborough University and the University of Leicester, is now available for business and industry to use as a crucial tool for driving innovation. Industrial Impact We have worked closely with academic colleagues and a range of industrial partners to ensure that the service meets business as well as academic needs. Flexible software licensing has been identified as a key requirement. We are delighted to be working with leading ISVs including ANSYS and CD-adapco to deliver this. Marketing and Outreach HPC Midlands has maintained a public profile both online and through high profile events such as the IDC HPC User Forum and the Hartree Centres HPC As a Service for Industry workshop. We will also be holding our own launch event on March 20th 2013, where delegates will be able to explore opportunities for collaboration and view posters and case studies that show how successful businesses including Tata Steel, E.ON and Rolls Royce already benefit from working closely with us. Academic Impact HPC Midlands has already proven hugely valuable for researchers, enabling them to work at a scale that would have previously been impossible such as the 800 core CFD job shown to the right. Case Study E.ON A recent project with E.ON used ANSYS CFX to model gas turbine performance observed speed-ups of between 30 and 145 times their in-house system. E.ON will be presenting on this work at the HPC Midlands launch event.
