THE SECOND WORLD WAR

By Balazs Varga 2-27-13

HOW DID THE START?

It all begun after World War I, The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to repay all countries of the Allies, because Germany was blamed. Germany spent about 33 billion dollars in reparation costs.

Germany soon ran out of money, so the government printed a lot

more bills. This made Germanys currency worthless. A man named Adolf Hitler rised to power over Germany, and he lead the Nazi Party. England wanted to avoid a war as much as possible, so

Neville Chamberlain allowed Germany to take parts of Czechoslovakia.

WHEN THE WAR STARTED.

The war started after Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Neville Chamberlain, Englands Prime Minister declared war soon after. The war in Europe officially started on the third of September.

The war included Poland, France, Belgium, England, Germany, Japan,

Italy, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Australia, Russia, the Netherlands, and later the USA. The war included many others, as well. Germanys Blitzkrieg strategy allowed them to take over countries very

fast, and they used this to invade many countries.

WHY THE WAR STARTED.

Germany elected a dictator named Adolf Hitler, a man that led the Nazi Party. Hitler believed the Jewish people was responsible for Germanys problems, so they put them in concentration camps, or death

camps.
Germany also invaded Poland, a European country near Germanys territory. Polands ally, England, declared war soon after. The USA joined the war soon after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, one

of the USAs Naval Bases.

HOW THE WAR ENDED

Germany invaded their ally, Russia, forcing them to join the allies. This was a big mistake, German soldiers froze or starved, and Russia began attacking from the East.

Then, on June 6, 1944, the USA, Canada, and England invaded

Normandy. Germany began taking heavy loses, and they soon surrendered. Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945. On August 6 and 9, 1945, the USA dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered on the 12th of August. ,

D-DAY
D-Day was planned by Dwight D. Eisenhower, a 5 star military general. It began June 6, 1944 when allied forces landed on the beached of Normandy, France. This included England, USA, and Canada. Russia was attacking from the west and G.B., USA, and Canada attacked East. Advancing into Germany, the Allies finally took Germany and freed

Jews from concentration camps.

WEAPONS OF WWII
America had Sherman tanks and the B-17 bombers, one of the best airplanes of the war. They also developed Atomic Bombs. Germany had Stuka dive bombers, and Tiger Tanks, ranking 2nd best

tank in the war.

Russia has T-34 tanks, the best tanks of the war, which could ram into Tiger Tanks and destroy them. England had the RAF, one of the best air forces in the war.

Japan had Banzai attackers with Zero and Kamikaze planes.

THE HOLOCAUST
Germany blamed its problems on Jews, people with a different religion. Hitler wanted to put them all away, so they put them in concentration camps. Americans soon found them and freed them, sadly almost 7 million Jews died.

BOMBING OF PEARL HARBOR

On December 7th, 1941, Japan bombed the US Naval base of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This forced America to enter the war. America believes it is because we cut the trading embargo with Japan. An embargo is a trade agreement.

THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN

Germanys air force constantly bombed England. The planes included Stuka dive bombers. People had to hide in subway tunnels and bomb shelters. Light was forbidden because Germanys planes could see houses.

AFTERMATH
After the war ended, Berlin, Germanys capital, was in ruins and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely destroyed. MILLIONS of soldiers and civilians (including Jews) were killed, an estimated 75 million people was killed or injured. It was the worst war in Earths history.

BATTLES OF WWII
The Battle of Midway was fought in the Pacific Ocean. It was in June 4-7, 1942. Battle of Coral Sea was fought from 4 May 8 May 1942. The battle of the Bismarck: The Bismarck was the strongest ship in Germanys Navy. England finally sunk the vessel after several ships sunk, including the Hood.

Many more battles included that I did not mention.

THE END
A salute to all allied men served and killed, thank you. All information got from my brain.
