In this unit, students will: Understand good composition and principles of design especially the creation of space, value, contrast and unity. Observe and consider how light effects how we see things. Research and record their findings on Impressionism. Learn about drawing tips and techniques sighting, basic shapes and proportions. Create a still life drawing. Create a still life collage. Understand perspective and forms, values and textures found in nature. Apply visual art techniques, tools, processes and materials. Use their developmental workbooks to research, record and reflect on work.

In this unit students will Display knowledge of color through various tasks, such as creating a color wheel and tints and shade exercises. Create a monochromatic landscape. Create an abstract painting based on Georgia O Keefe using warm and cool colors. Experiment and explore through both spontaneous and structured activities. Research the work of Vincent Van Gogh Create an artwork inspired by their research. Keep records of research, plans and progress in their Developmental Workbooks. Record, reflect and improve work using various sources. Complete a performance task on the work of Van Gogh whats it about, the major artists, features of his work etc.

Emotions Run Deep! How can we create emotion and a sense of place and time through painting?

Painting can be a powerful medium for personal expression.

Human Ingenuity Awareness and understanding of: The individual desire to create, develop or change things.

In School: Have the nurse talk to the girls about mental health and how important it is to vent emotions and worries in some way. In School: Display of Work during Arts week

In this unit, students will: Research the history of clay. How has ceramics evolved since Ancient times? Students will look at how functional pottery has developed. Create a bowl using modroc and a plate or cup using clay. Demonstrate an understanding of how to use the tools, equipment and various techniques involved in working with clay and modroc. Record, reflect and improve work using feedback from various sources. Show self-discipline when using their developmental sketchbooks. Explore form, the meaning of structure, spatial design, surface, color, proportion, texture, function and content. Understand the sources of clay, the relationship to history, and potential of clay as a craft through examples. Complete a reflection sheet evaluating overall unit. Complete a quiz on new vocabulary and knowledge.
