Provision of Automated Audio Announcements at Waverley Railway Station Thank you for your letter of 18 February, where you ask about the provision of passenger information in audio, which I agree is an important service for passengers. Network Rail, that manages the station, advises that an automated audio announcement system has been operating in the station since 2005. This provides most passengers using the station with clear, real time train service and other information over the public address system. However, noise from ongoing improvement works may affect the ability to hear announcements in some areas of the station on occasions. There are' induction loops available in the main ticket office, providing specific help for those who may have a hearing impairment. If any passenger requires assistance then station staff will provide help. There is a dedicated passenger assistance service based in East Coast's ticket office at platform 7, next to the taxi drop off area. Network Rail is not aware of sound hoods being used in any railway station in Britain. However, Network Rail is keen to understand what other improvements could be made that might assist passengers with specific needs and would be happy to discuss with you further.
