Problem: Millions of animals are dying and no one is stopping it.

Some animals are being treated very cruelly during experiments. Statistics: 44,520 innocent animals die per day as a result of animal testing. About 100,000 animals were in distress and were given no pain killers during the experiments.

How it affects people: Millions of people believe that animals deserve better rights and less cruelty. Groups of people effected: Doctors: can get new medications for patients Scientific Researchers: have subjects to test Public: can get newest and latest medications that could be more beneficial than ones previously used Animals: are being killed and not administered adequate pain killers if they do live

What caused it: Scientists caused this problem because they wanted to develop new medications without needing to kill off millions of people. They think that animals dont have feeling and are therefore, not important. They also believe that if we test on animals, it will give us a better way to understand human reactions to the latest medications developed and will prove these medications to be effective or not. On the contrary, there are multiple tests to prove that animal testing is ineffective. Statistics: In fact, 90% of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials (Overton). Animal tested drugs have killed the disabled or harmed millions of people and lead to costly delays (Overton). Only two percent of all human illnesses are even on record in the animal kingdom (Animal Testing Facts). It is proven that animals never get the human forms of cancer. 5-25% of the animal tests and human results are now discarded as useless to humans. Reform Solution: Scientists could use different forms of testing for experimentation. Solutions: Tests can be done without animals using the Neutral Red Uptake Assay. By placing cells in a glass dish, then putting the product in with the cells, they will then mix and the color will determine how many cells are alive. If the gel is clear, then all the cells are dead. Pink means some cells are dead and red means most of the cells are alive. The computer analyzes how the chemical is most likely to kill human cells. If companies stick to old formulas, or to combinations of chemicals that have previously been safely tested, then no further testing is required.
