CULTURAL SUMMER INTERN


This position assists the Youth Coordinator in planning and holding youth events in order to service at risk tribal members promote Eyak culture and provide fun activities for all community members. The incumbent is expected to work independently with groups of youth aged K-12 under the direction of the youth coordinator. This position receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments, work is discussed frequently, and supervisor signs off on all activities.

Salary range: 11.50-12.00/hr Schedule: Temporary, 20-25 hrs p/week,

Responsibilities/Duties Assists with Wasaqcare day camp preparation Leads youth through day camp activities Contacts Tribal Members and Youth about upcoming events and other opportunities Coordinates with other Tribal Family Services departments for youth activities Acts as chaperone on trips and youth events Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Good knowledge of computers, office equipment and Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of traditional crafts. Ability to organize and plan events, knowledge of appropriate abilities for each age child. Ability to lead, supervise and teach children, keeping them on task and ensuring appropriate, safe behavior. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth and co-workers. Ability to work with a supervisor, capable of using resources to carry tasks to completion. Good knowledge of motorized and nonmotorized recreation vehicles. Ability to successfully pass a background check. Experience Requirements One year experience working in a leadership role with youth. One year experience working with Microsoft Office Suite. Education Requirement Highschool diploma or equivalent Performance Standard Regularly move quickly, bend, crouch and exert muscular force to coordinate and complete events and activities. Regularly manipulate electronic data to contact, notice, and otherwise invite youth and others to participate in NVE programs. Regularly use communication devices to complete work. Some operating of small recreation vehicles to complete outdoor activities
