Assist in training new coworkers regarding the admissions process, institutional culture, and everyday office functioning. During a quarterly staff retreat, I presented to my coworkers the topic of Re-imagining Respect in intercultural contexts (adapted from a presentation I attended at a NAFSA conference). GR: Helped diverse women navigate US culture and relationships issues. SS: Shortly after I began my position at SSCC, my team was tasked with creating a new online application and system database. I was able to input my thoughts into the decision making process and ultimately ended up with a more stream-line/efficient application process. LW: In collaboration with the selective admissions program director, I revised and edited the nursing application. Also, I worked with the director of Enrolment Services to re-vamp campus tours and the general information session. C: In Educational Research (EDUC 500), I compiled relevant research on the topic of transfer student involvement and created a literature review summarizing my findings. I wrote about a real-life campus crisis at Western Washington University, the disappearance and death of a university freshman. SS: I work directly with international students who come from a variety of countries, backgrounds, and perspectives. SSCC is one of the most diverse community colleges in Washington State. This environment has improved my ability to engage in multiculturalism. GR: I developed deep, meaningful relationships with women from the Middle East and North Africa. The women had diverse perspectives regarding faith, class, and gender. I ensured that all the women were treated equally with dignity, respect, and integrity.

SS: As a Designated School Official (DSO), I must have a clear understanding of the laws and polices surrounding F-1 international students. I convey my understanding of the policies to our international students. GR: The women I worked with were able to come to the States because of a grant funded by the US Department of State. I am aware of the incredible power the government has in bestowing opportunities for international students in higher education. C: My Higher Education Law (SDAD 580) course taught me some of the rights and responsibly of higher education professionals. I wrote several briefs which explained liabilities, rights, and responsibilities of students, faculty/staff, and the institution. LW: During the course of my internship, LWITs college president suddenly passed away. This prompted me to evaluate the ethical decision making of the Board of Trustees in responding to this crisis. C: In Foundations (SDAD 577), we learned about the historical and philosophical framework that guides our profession. SS: In November 2012, I attended the NAFSA (Association for International Educators) Regional Conference as part of a professional development opportunity with my office. I attended a workshop on F-1 advising and went to several sessions within the topic of international education. I then reported some of the information learned to the rest of our office. Also, the international admissions process is constantly being adjusted in order to accommodate shifting demands. I am able to work collaboratively and individually to develop the most effective process. SS: As higher education professionals, we are tasked with helping students adjust to transition on a regular basis (Schlosbergs Transition Theory). In my work with international students, it is vital to use theory as a tool to help these transitioning students adjust to new environments and culture. GR: In my internship, I was able to use

SS: In my position I have had the opportunity to share my perspective in the creation of a new online application process and student database. These changes directly affected me and the daily workflow. Also, I have trained new admissions employees and answered questions to facilitate the learning process. ++ GR: This internship was all about enhancing my leadership skills. I planned events, collaborated with fellow ambassadors, and carried out the work effectively while maintaining my role as the lead ambassador. I do this by prioritizing my workflow and dealing with the most urgent situations first. LW: My supervisor at LWIT, Cindy Mowry, really encouraged self-care, especially with the passing of the president. Cindy modeled emotional and physical wellness. I was able to step away from the office and take time to process the seriousness of the event. C: In MGMT 575, we practice yoga as part of a holistic education. The helps me remain grounded and focus on present thoughts, feelings, and emotions. P: I try to maintain a balanced life-style by exercising at least 3 times per week, making healthy food choices, and make times for relationships/socializing.
