The 5 Major Geographic Regions

Have you ever wondered whats beyond America? Many of times I have wondered what China is like. But from my research I was far from correct. In some areas its this in other areas its that. Some of the areas in Washington are different some are the same. No area of land is the same for long the land changes over time. Now you will see the areas that change over time and the 5 major geographic regions of Washington and China. The northwestern desert is our first destination. The northwestern desert is in outer China. Within the northwestern desert there is two deserts Taklimakan and the Gobi deserts. In the summer the deserts get really hot and in the winter they get really cold. The Taklimakan desert is about 105,000 square miles. The name means once you go in you will not come out legend has it that 2 armys and 300 cities were buried under 600 feet of sand and the dunes are always shifting and changing because of the wind. The Gobi desert is 500,000 square miles and cover s part of China and Mongolia. There are few dunes its mostly stone there is few plant live and if there is its very spaced. The northeastern plain is the next stop. The northeastern plain is located in northern Mongolia. The northeastern plain has low land, low hills, and lot of open plain. The northeastern plain has prairie grass horses and sheep feed on this grass. The major rivers are the Liao and the Sungari rivers. The Liao River is shallow only small boats can navigate through it and the Sungari River is deep and larger boats can get through it easily. When it freezes the people use it as a road. The northeastern plain has short warm summers and dry cold winters. The northeastern plain has milder weather, lots of water, and its good for growing crops. Now we are at the North China Plain. Its flat and grassy it has warm summers and cold winters. The North China Plain has a nickname Land of the yellow earth they call it that because the ground is yellow lime stone silt from the Gobi river and the silt from the Gobi river is from the Haung He river or the Yellow River. The Haung He River is the longest muddiest river some people say it looks more like soup then river water. The Haung He River comes down from the

western mountains and brings the silt down from the mountains and fertilizes the plants. But they call it the disaster river because it floods 1,500 times a year. Here is the last stop of Chinas regions. The Middle and Lower Chang Jiang Basins has low wet coastal plains. Chang Jiang means Long River and there are hundreds of tributaries. Tributaries are rivers that feed into more rivers. The Chang Jiang River starts at the western mountains and flows though three plains and into a delta. The Chang Jiang River is warm and long ago there was a rain forest and it was bad for farming, not animals, but it was good for rice.

Washingtons Turn the first place we are going to go to is the coastal region. The Pacific Ocean, the strait of Juan da fuca, Olympic Mt., Willipa hills, and Organ border the coastal region. The coastal plains were formed by three things plat tectonics, glaciers from the last ice age, and erosion. The features of Washington are rivers, lakes, and large bodies of salt water. The rivers are short and deep and all the rivers start on the Olympic Mt. except Chehalis River. The two main lakes are Cosset and Quinault Lake. The large bodies of salt water are Willipa bay, Grey harbor, Dungeness split, Cape lava, Shasha beach, and Long river peninsula. Animals that live there are elk, moose, deer, bear, owls, otters, eagles, and migrating birds. Wow weve gotten this far but still a long way to go. We are now at Puget Sound lowlands. Located at central part of western Washington. Its bordered by Olympic Mt. on the west, Cascade on the east, northwestern interior on the north, and the Willipa hills to the south. Its formed by Mt. Rainer eruption, glaciers from the ice age, and rivers. There are bays, rivers, oceans/large bodies of salt water, and islands. The rivers are Scaget, Stillaguamish, Snohomish, Puyallup, and Nisqually River. The bays are Fort Gardener, Elliot, and Comercement Bay. Ocean/Large bodies of salt water are Puget Sound and Hood Canal. The islands are Whidbey, Comoa, and Vashon. Wow guess were we are the highlands. We have arrived at our third destination Okanogan Highlands. Northeast Washington has a lot of trees the climate is also very extreme really cold winters and super hot summers. Mining is really good they mine for silver, magnesium, copper, and zinc. Logging is also good because there are a lot of trees. Look up there it the Cascade Mt. they go up to 10,778ft. It snows about 1,140in per season the snow is always there on the mountaintops on and off snow all the time and it has high elevation all through the region. The last destination is the Columbia Plateau. The Columbia Plateau is located between the Rockies and the Cascades. They say its warm and sunny and in the winter its mildly cold. The elevation of the plateau is 200 to 5,000 feet or 60 to 1,500 miles above sea level. The area of the plateau is about 100,000 square feet. There are many differences and similarities about Washington and China. They both have plains, plateaus, mountain ranges, and

coast. For Washington I gave specific information and I gave more details I put how they were formed and what mite have happened but I put more information for China. China to me seems to be hotter to me then Washington from what I have read it seems so. I cannot name so many because China and Washington are more alike you seem They Are the same and different there is a coast and there is rivers and there is mountain ranges. I could name 100 tiny little details that wouldnt really matter but the most important thing is that you now know more about Washington and China that you probably never knew before. I hope you now have learned some new things about Washington and China
