Associated Student Government University of Arkansas ASG Senate Resolution No. 47 Authors: Senator Hayley Noga, Senator Joe Kieklak, Senator Ellen Rudolph Sponsors: Senator Hayley Noga, Senator Joe Kieklak, Senator Ellen Rudolph A Resolution for Increase in Grade Forgiveness Whereas, Whereas, Many students develop symptoms of depression and other mental health diseases during college; and Early diagnosis and treatment of mental illness can ease symptoms, prevent illness from returning, and aid students in succeeding in college; and A study from the American College Health Associations National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) found that nearly 30 percent of college students reported feeling so depressed that it was difficult to function; and Bad mental health can be a detriment to academic performance in college and academic pressures also have the potential to worsen depression; and Measures to help students manage mental illness, including medication, are not immediately effective; and Time is an important factor in treating and healing depression; then The Associated Student Government supports students who are diagnosed with mental illness; and ASG recommends the administration and Student Affairs improve Razorback student health and wellness increasing grade forgiveness from 2 total to 3 total per student; and ASG supports the idea of a Mental Health Awareness Committee that is ultimately designed to bring a Mental Health Awareness Week to the U of A in upcoming semesters.
