Characterization

There is no attempt at creating a believable character. 1-2

Focus

Use of Drama Technique

The student has very little focus during the performance and keeps forgetting lines and missing cues. There is no evidence of any drama technique used to create character. The student keeps forgetting her lines and is clearly not learning them. The student fails to use vocal projection and modulation. Her voice is always monotonous and unclear. Does not display any knowledge of stage directions. No costume or props are used or they are very boring and not used appropriately. The student shows no awareness of the audience age and needs. The student did not bow and immediately left the stage. She did not acknowledge the audience.

Student creates character by using her facial expressions, body and voice but does not sustain this throughout her performance. 2-3 The student is able to focus during the performance but tends to lose energy if the break between lines is a bit long. There is some evidence of using drama techniques to create a believable character and situation. The student has learned her lines but keeps using the same formulaic delivery. The student projects well but does not modulate very well making her voice monotonous. The performance displays some knowledge of stage directions. Costume and props are used in an appropriate way. Student shows awareness of the audience age and needs but does not play up to them effectively. The student took a bow but did not acknowledge the audience.

The student creates a believable character by using her voice, body and facial expressions and is able to sustain this throughout the performance. 4-5 The student has very good focus and is able to sustain this throughout her performance. She is able to maintain high energy levels throughout. It is clear in the students performance that drama techniques are being applied in creating a believable character and situation. The student knows her lines and keeps trying new ways of delivering them. The student projects very well and has a well modulated voice. She tries to always use vocal inflection to deliver her lines well. Student understands stage directions and is proficient in it. Costume is used in very interesting way.
