A Cat, A Mouse, and Pears by Margo Fallis Alfred Cat was chasing after Sarah Mouse through the

woods. They were so tired that they lay down next to each other against a tall tree to rest. Sarah looked up the tree. "It looks like some big, juicy pears. I love pears. Do you?" "I love pears too, Alfred said. "Id like to eat one. How can we reach them?" Sarah said. "Cant you climb? Youre a mouse," Alfred said. "I cant climb THAT high!" she replied. "Youre a cat. Cats can climb trees too." "Not this cat! I dont climb trees," Alfred said. "Then how will we get those delicious looking pears?" Sarah asked. "Why dont we use a ladder and climb up?" "Brilliant idea!" Sarah said. The two went to Mr. MacDonalds croft to get the ladder. The y carried it back to the tree leaned it against the tree. "How will we climb the ladder? Alfred said. "You stand here, at the bottom and Ill climb on your head. Ill reach the rung, pull myself up, and then help you up. We can do it," Sarah said.
