The Officer-in-Charge, Majlis Perbandaran , Bangunan Seri Emas, 08000 Sungai Petani. 14 DECEMBER 2011 Dear Sir, Pasar Malam- A Nuisance I wish to complain about the pasar malam in my area. 2. The pasar malam in our housing estate is held every Sunday night. More than 100 makeshift stalls occupy part of the inner road parallel to the main road leading into the estate as well as the front end of the first left turning in a kind of elongated L. Some of the estate stalls shoot off between these two inner roads to form a iopsided F. 3. My house is the second building on the left of this off-shoot. There are sometimes five stalls outside my house as well as another half a dozen opposite. There are legally-marked parking bays along the street, but I cannot park my car in any of them with any peace of mind come Sunday evening. It could be decoratedwith food left-overs or covered with an obnoxious film of smoke and cooking oil from frying pans by the time Sunday night is over. 4. Imagine having all kinds of unwanted visitors stationed outside your residence or constantly walking by your place every Sunday from about 6.30 p.m to 11.00 p.m. The noise of food being cooked .hawkers shouting at the top of their voices to attract customers and people chattering non-stop prevent you from enjoying your favourite TV programmes. Babies and the elderly find it difficult to get to sleep. Cars and motor-cycles are indiscriminately parked on road shoulders and outside private homes. Traffic is disrupted and tempers are frayed. The pasar malam is certainly not a welcome event to those of us living in premises in front of the stalls. 5. One should be around the morning after. Streaks of murky liquid criss-cross the area. Uncollected sheets of paper, empty drink packets, plastic bags and food leftovers litter the place. Seeing may be believing but smelling is nauseating . The rotting foodstuff makes all the residents consider hiring someone anyone to summon the rains and wash it all away . I hope you will look into the matter and take appropriate action.
