Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 7.
EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least two of the three early childhood age groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of settings that offer early education (early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs) (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2011).
Brief Description of Evidence:
During the fall 2012 semester as part of my ECED 255 generalist practicum final project, I organized and implemented a family fun night for school-age children and their families at Apple Tree Child Development Center. To organize the event I spent time creating a family brochure that included information about the event and the need for family time. During the event families enjoyed partaking in a carry-in dinner provided by the staff and families, a photoshoot, craft, and teambuilding game.
Analysis of What I Learned:
Through organizing and implementing a family fun night event I was able to reach out to families and show them just how important and fun family time can be. This experience also helped bring different families closer and got them to work together. During the 255 course I learned how to promote child development and learning for a variety of ages in a number of ways.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:
This final project is one of the many assignments I completed throughout my early childhood field experience in order to promote family relationships and development of children ages three through eight. This opportunity has allowed me to become confident in providing children of all ages in a variety of settings, with unique learning experiences that foster learning and development.
