Ethics how one should behave or a code of morality.

Moral conduct is relative to the culture and time, although more or less basically remain the same(hurt/hurt others=bad, love=good). E.g. It is okay or good to have two or three wives in some arab states(i think that was before). It is unethical to have two wives or a mistress in western countries, ethically one wife is correct. In 15th century england, women were not allowed an education, to work or to vote. Now that is considered wrong because one breadwinner is not enough. So based upon these, we can say that ethics is based upon, what we have raised to believe and if it fits our purpose or objective. It is bad if it harms or if most of society will think it is wrong. Ultimately what is considered good or bad is based upon what we like or dislike. However morality is necessary for society itself to funcction. But of course ethics itself is broader than morality, it aims to achieve the good life, like above said people have different definitions of leading a good or fufilled life. example. People have to practice a certain religion, do certain things, achieve certain things in order to achieve a good life. So who is really right when our definition of ethics(good life) clashes with those of society or what the majority hold as ethical. Source(s):
