robinetterie
The Europenne Standard EN 736-1 june 1995 defines the principal types of valves. The classification method used in the standard has also been used in this catalogue to distinguish between our main forged steel products.
Globe valves Interruption of the flow is effected by means of a disc, moving perpendicular to its seat and along the direction of liquid flow, giving an S effect, resulting in high pressure drop. Designs are also available with an inclined bonnet and seat straightway type wich tends to straighten the flow thereby reducing the pressure drop characteristic considerably. A globe valve allows flow adjustments from complete shutoff to precision throttling, according to the type of disc being used : loose disc, needle, V type. The standard globe valves are supplied with a loose disc and with either an integral stellited or renewable seat.
Gate valves Closure is effected by sliding a gate, commonly defined as a wedge between two parallel or oblique seats rings, positioned perpendicular to the flow. The flow is the case of a gate valve is horizontal to the wedge and straight through, thus frictional losses expressed as pressure drop are low. normally a gate valve is either used under full flow or complele shut-off conditions, it should never be used for regulation purposes. The designs manufactured are solid wedge with removable seats.
Check valves As the name implies the valve is designed to allow flow in one direction only, thereby preventing flow reversal. The internal closure part may be according to type, guided piston, swing or ball. Forged check valves are of the piston or ball types and intended to be installed in horizontal or vertical pipes.

diamtre nominaux
nominal diameters
The nominal diameter DN is simply a number use for piping classification according to size. This number corresponds approximately to the internal diameter of pipes designed for comparatively low pressures. As the standard for a specified DN gives the external diameter, the actual internal diameter may differ from the Nominal Diameter when the pressure is high and requires an increase in pipe wall thickness. that is the reason why pipes have to be indicated by their DN and also their Schedule : eg. 1/2 inch schedule 80. Therefore, it hat also been found practical to use the Nominal Diameter DN system to classify the valves and then to standardize the dimensions of the various types of ends. However, it is essential, for the reasons given in the previous paragraph, to avoid confusing the nominal Diameter DN of a valve with its actual port diameter and this is the reason why this last figure is also given in the descriptive pages of our catalogue.

selecting a valve
The selection of a valve is made according to the main factors listed below ; the effects of wich ac simultaneously ; Function : shut-off, approximate throttling or precise throttling wich determines the optimum type of valve : gate valve, globe valve, needle valve, etc... Working pressure and temperture : wich at the same time impose the Series on PN and suitable materials. Capacity and acceptable pressure drop wich at the same time as the type determine the selection of the port diameter. Nature of the fluid and its temperature, which may effect the choice of materials used. Whenever possible, it is advisable that such selection be made in co-operation wich the manufacturer whose experience can be beneficial to the customer. Thus, when using high temperture steam, we recommend the use of integral stellited seat globe valves of the appropriate series rather than renewable stellited seat gate valves or renewable seat globe valves which on the other hand, are quite appropriate for lower temperatures. We strongly recommend our customers to consult us whenever they are confronted by a new problem.

Industrial valves may be classified by one standard according to the maximum working conditions : Classes or Sries or PN according to standards mainly used in the USA (ANSI B16-5, API 600 & 602), in Great-Britain (BS 1560 AND 5352) and in France (AFNOR, NFE 29005 and NFM 87412) are defined by Pressure -Temperature - Ratings. To each grade steel there is a pressure/temperature rating graph for each class. In the USA standard it should also be noted that when the ambient temperature of 16C (60F) has been chosen as reference, the number indicating the series is followed by the initials CWP, an abbreviation for Cold Working Pressure, eg. 3000 CWP. The diagrams on next pages show the maximum pressure and temperature ratings for valves. Such conditions are applicable to normal, non-shock, (mechanical or thermal) use.
