Summary of changes
This summary of the changes to the LPC Rules for automatic sprinkler installations 2009, incorporating BS EN 12848:2004 +A2:2009 (LPC Rules) has been prepared to assist users identify and understand the nature of the changes in this new edition of the LPC Rules. It is not intended to be used as an alternative to referencing or using this this edition of the LPC Rules. The FPA makes no guarantee, representation or warranty (express (express or implied) as to the accuracy or completeness of any information and advice contained in this summary. All advice is given on the basis of information, knowledge and technology as at the date of this summary. Use or reliance upon this summary is at a t the users own risk.

Most changes in BS EN 12845 are indicated by start and finish markers .

National foreword The national foreword has been revised and references are made to the special requirements for life safety. The UK normal practice of reserving sprinkler system water supplies solely for the sprinkler system is referred to and it should be assumed that this reference in the national foreword relates to the Note at 9.6.4, although this is not stated We recommended that LPC rules users read the National foreword.

TB203 Care and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems This TB replaces BS EN Clause 20 in its entirety. A maintenance programme is specified as follows:

TB203. 3.2.2 Review of hazard (Quarterly) The Technical Bulletin specifies that the quarterly review of hazard should be undertaken by one of the following procedures: An inspection by a competent person for example an engineer from a sprinkler servicing contractor; or By the sprinkler system user submitting a return to the sprinkler contractor detailing any changes A list of items to check during the review of hazard is given in the TB, see below:

TB210 Pumps This Technical Bulletin has been expanded to encompass Power supplies (previously TB220). Only one change of a technical nature has been introduced in TB210.12

The reference to TB210.T5 in the above paragraph has been changed from TB210.T6.

TB233 Water supplies for life safety systems. This new Technical Bulletin provides guidance on compliance with the Approved Document B (Fire Safety) Volume 2- Buildings other than dwellinghouses.

An extract from the ADB detailing the relevant clauses for water supplies is given in Appendix 1 of the Technical Bulletin.
