There are many roles within a studio which can be filled and contribute towards the running of the

studio and getting products from it. Here are 3 roles within the studio explained: Producer: The producers job is to oversee and manage the recording of an artists music. A producers roles are not limited and can include gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and musicians, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the sessions, and supervising the entire process through mixing and mastering. Producers may also take responsibility for the budget, schedules and negotiations. The producer creatively guides or directs the process of making a record and has some creative input. In most cases the music producer is also a competent arranger, composer, musician or songwriter who can bring fresh ideas to a project. They can also make suggestions to improve the track to the sound engineer.

Stu!o Roles

Engineer: An audio engineer/audio technician/audio technologist/recording engineer/sound engineer/sound operator/sound technician is responsible for using the machinery and equipment for the recording, mixing and reproduction of sounds. This role draws on some creative and artistic areas such as electronics, acoustics, psychoacoustics and music. Theyre also responsible for the placing of microphones, setting levels, setting up amps and the physical recording of the project.

Tape Op: A tape operator was used when sound was recorded onto tape. Their role was to press record, stop, play and working the machinery. Although this sounds like a simple job, studios werent as common as they are now and would need someone who is specialised and knowledgable in using tape and how it works, therefore a tape operator was hired.
