DIRECT-INSTRUCTION

Direct-Instruction is an instructional method that uses teacher-demonstration and explanation combined with student practice and feedback to help learners acquire well-defined knowledge and skills needed for later learning. / This method provides a constant interaction between the student and the teacher allowing more students to become engaged and a greater chance for learning to occur.

THEORITTCAL FOUNDATION

Based on the works of Vygotsky and his "social-cognitive" theory... which states that social development plays a

fundamental role in the process of cognitive development... A.K.A "MODELING". Built on the idea of "scaffolding...students cannot solve a problem alone but can be successful with the help of a teacher.
Teacher directed/student-practiced The most successful teaching-model used for culturally diverse students

PLANNING

-Identify Topic=Must be a, procedural skiff (ft topic that requires students to be engaged in something/practice)... What skill da I want my students to understand and be able to apply/use? -Specify Learning Objective=Will always be "Autematkity and Transfer" Jhe skill becomes automatic and the students are able to apply the skill in different settings. -Prepare examples and Problems= What types of examples cm I give to my students toot will help them to understand the new skill? What types of problems mil be essential for helping them practice the skill? -Examples should help students further understand the skill and the problems are put into place to help them practice using the skill.

IMPLEMENTING

-Introduction & Review=The teacher introduces the lesson and reviews prior understanding/background knowledge. / Be sure to grab your students' attention!!! -Presentation'The new skill is presented, explained, and illustrated with high-quality examples...Teacher models the skill./ Ask for clarifications. -Guided Practice=Students practice the skill under the teacher's guidance..,Develop perceptions of competence; provide scaffolding -Independent Practice= Students practice the skill on their own....Use critical thinking to apply the skill to new contexts.

-ASSESSING

Teachers can assess the students through "skill assessments" which measures the students' skills and their abilities to solve problems on their own. Students are motivated by challenge, self-improvement, and a sense of accomplishment. Teachers can modify the skill by providing diverse students with extra support and also providing more structure and modeling so that it becomes more familiar and understandable. /Provide students with more examples/ideas that will link the new information to their background/cultural knowledge.

-MOTIVATION -MODIFICATION

So what? What is important to understand about this? The D/recf-Ins1ruct/oa model is centered on "I do it. We do it. You do it". This method helps students to become more independent learners', Students are able to demonstrate new skills and apply new knowledge without obtaining help from anyone else. It also helps to achieve procedural and critical thinking skills that students can take with them throughout life... life-learned"skills.
