Anticipatory Set: The teacher will read the book "Please Don't Eat Me" written by Roger DeMuth. The teacher will draw the students attention to the rhyming words in the book. The teacher will ask the students what words can rhyme with fish, and will make a list of all the words the students come up with. Input: a. Materials: i. Paper ii. Markers iii. Colored pencils iv. Crayons v. "Please Don't Eat Me" by Roger DeMuth b. Steps i. The teacher will write words that rhyme with fish (wish, dish, swish, squish, splish). ii. The teacher will ask the students how they know that the words rhyme (look at the ish ending). iii. Students will be asked to return to their seats, and two helpers will pass out the paper to the other students. 1. While the paper is being passed out, students will discuss which words rhyme with their partner. This repetition will ensure that the students grasp the concept of the words we are rhyming, since the sh ending is one that needs to be recognized by sight and cannot be discovered by sounding out. iv. The teacher will use the starboard to write a silly sentence using the words that the class has come up with. The teacher will then draw a picture to go along with the sentence and will show the students.

If more time is needed to dedicate to the lesson, the teacher will then further explain how the words are related through their sh ending. This assessment will continue through the year so students are able to become more familiar with words ending with the sh sound. These words will be reviewed so the student is easily able to identify the sound that goes along with the blend when they see it.
