Sequence Game: Split class into two groups, and have them face each other in a line that

is slightly curved so that they can see each other. Students should be given a whiteboard to use along with markers and erases (and of course calculators, just in case). Three rounds will be played, each round having ten questions. Teams will alternate turns, taking different roles. Round 1: Both teams will be given a list of three numbers. The first teams goal is to complete the sequence. The first student will write down one number on their whiteboard and then the next person will record the second number on their whiteboard. Then the third member of their group will record the last number on their whiteboard. The other members of the group have to generate the next numbers in order. The group must remain silent during this round or else loose a point. After each question, players must switch places. The other team will be instructed to record whether or not the sequence is arithmetic or geometric, and state either the common difference or common ratio. All of the students have to have the correct answer on their whiteboards before the other team can finish their sequence in order to win a point. This team may talk, but they may not say, arithmetic, geometric, or (any single number). Whichever team finishes their task first will win a point, and the team with the most points at the end will be given one round. Round 2: One team will be given a list of three numbers again, and their goal is exactly the same. The other team will have to determine if the sequence is arithmetic or geometric again, but this time they must come up with one of the formulas that generate the sequence. (Since generating a formula can be complicated, a handicap can be added, where if the sequence team finishes, the team has an extra ten seconds to some up with the formula without loosing a point.) The rules for this group are exactly the same as Round 1.

Round . In this round, one team will express the series in a sequence, from the sigma notation, and the other team will have to evaluate the sum. For this round, instead of handing slips of paper to any group, the problems will be given on the board. Same rules and scoring apply.
