10BASE-T: The number (10) refers to the cable speed (in this case 10mbps). The T refers to "twist".

10BASE-T is getting old and you probably won't see much of it anymore. 100BASE-TX: 100 stands for 100mbps and the TX, in this case, identifies the type of medium. There are 3 types for 100BASE: 100BASE-TX - Fast Etherent RJ45 100BASE-FX - Fast Ethernet Fiber Connection 100BASE-T4 - Fast Ethernet RJ45 over CAT3, 4 or 5 (4 pair)
