TAKING RESPONSIBILITY Author : Patrick Guntensperger I choose this article because it involved about natural resources are going to vanish from earth. Even there are natural resources that can renewable such as water, animals, lumbers, etc. From this article we will learn how to save our earth. Resource based industries-mining, oil and gas extraction, lumber and fisheries and any other industries that takes a natural resources as their raw material have a special set of responsibilities to the planet and the people who occupy. Certainly those other occupants need those resources; certainly they benefit from having them extracted, refined, and made available for use; nevertheless, those resources are a planetary legacy from which a small segment of the planets population is reaping enormous profits. Fishing industries is one of the industries that depend from renewable natural resources. They have responsibility to ensure the survival of the species they capture. Next is the partial renewable resources industry such as lumber and pulpwood industries. These are described as partial renewable because the forest can be replanted and continue to resources raw material, but once they are damage or even destroyed, it will destroy the ecosystem within them and it will not regenerate in our life time. The last is the non-renewable resources based industries. Because they have even more compelling and specialized obligation, they have a moral duty to develop alternative solution to replace the resources they are exploiting. International law states that they have to spend significant percentage of their revenue to develop alternative solution to replace the resources they are exploiting. In this article, the writer wants us to realize that we have taken natural resource irresponsibility and disregarding our obligation to maintain and take care the sustainability of this planet. In my point of view, the writer is correct, because we have become very greedy and forget our obligation to preserve earth for our next generation, furthermore if we cant control our greed there is no way we can preserve this planet for our next generation.
