Final Assessment For our final assessment we will be testing the students on a number of subjects related to plants. The assessment is designed to demonstrate the students knowledge of both the parts of the plant as well as their functions. The students will have three separate worksheets to fill out. This will help us get an understanding of whether or not the students get what we have been teaching them the past seven weeks. Activity: A Matching images of a vegetable to the part of the plant it comes from. In this activity the children are going to be writing down what part of the plant each vegetable picture is. This paper will have it so that the children can draw lines to each part. It will be a matching activity. This activity will show Patrick and I whether or not the children understand where a root is, or what and where the leaves are. As well as showing us that the children understand that we eat plants every day. Have the students match the vegetables to the parts: Carrots/sweet potatoes Celery Spinach/lettuce Pumpkin seed Tomato Activity: B Drawing activity: The paper will have four different words and below the word they draw what that part of the plant is. This will help Patrick and I understand and get to see if the children really know what a stem is, or where the roots are and what they look like from what we have explained in class. Without showing them what each thing looks like will also help us know if they have been learning from our lessons. Have the students draw the following parts of the plant: Seed Flower Leaves Stem Roots Activity: C Life cycle: This part of the assessment has three images, each with a corresponding sentence. The pictures represent the plant starting as a seed, sprouting from the ground and growing roots. The students will read the sentences and write in the the terms.

Image 1: The plant starts as a ________ (Seed) Image 2: After it germinates it ________ (Sprouts) Image 3: Below the soil the plant grows ________ (Roots) Plant Functions: For this part of the assessment there is an image of a plant with no leaves or roots. On one side of the plant we ask, What does this plant need to collect sunlight? and, Can you draw it on this plant? On the other side of the plant we ask, What does this plant need to collect water? and, Can you draw it on this plant? Observations: For this aspect of the assessment we will present the student with a plant. We will ask them a number of prompts and write their answers below. This activity will help give us a perspective of what the children have taken in from our lessons. What do you notice about this plant? What can you tell me about the parts of the plant? What do you observe about this plant? Main Activity: In the time we have allotted for the lesson Kelsey and I will be pulling students into the hallway to assess them. For the students still in the classroom there will be an art activity in which students create plants for display in the classroom. The students will have free reign to create whatever kind of plant they choose. As the students are working we should encourage them to give the plants a stem, leaves, and a flower or fruit of some kind. Materials: Pipe cleaners Construction paper Buttons Upon completion of the plant the students will add their plant to a plastic planter to create a class garden.
