LAYING OUT OF INSTRUMENTS (BASIC SET)

PROCEDURE:

1. Pick the desired pack of instruments and lay it on the mayo stand. 2. Unwrap and discard the wrapper on big orange bucket (located near the prep table). 3. Remove the loose instruments first, like thumb and tissue forceps, army navy retractor and place it on the right side of the mayo stand. 4. Unlock the instruments, remove the towel clips, and put it on the right upper corner of the mayo stand. (Inside the bowl). The needle holder should be on the right lower corner of the mayo stand, in line with the tissues and thumb forceps. 5. Support all the handles of the forceps with your right hand and left hand to straighten the tips and count instruments from the tip. 6. Move all the instruments, still your right hand holding the handles to upper left portion of the mayo stand. Bend all instruments away from the person preparing the instruments and do not glide it any more towards you (person preparing the instrument). 7. Prepare sharps instruments (metz/mayo curve scissors for cutting of tissues, metz/mayo straight scissors for cutting of sutures only, scalpel handle #4 for blades #20,21,22 and blade handle #3 for blades #10,11 & 15). 8. Prepare the kidney basin and get 10 OS (for major operations) &4 6 OS (for minor operations) place inside the kidney basin then invert the KB on top of the instruments. 9. Prepare 1 suction tube with tip and place the tube inside the bowl, with the tip in line with the needle holder. 10. Prepare the suture book with the corresponding sutures and place it under the bowl, be sure the opening of the suture book should be towards the sponge nurse. (if there is no sponge nurse, the opening of the suture book should be facing/ towards the instrument nurse).
