Dear Sir/Madam,

The Centre for Excellence in Learning & Teaching (CELT) in the Department of
Educational Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona, will be hosting their
- 16, 2009.
annual Mathematics Problem Solving Competition on Thursday April -

Your school is invited to participate in this competition by sending a team of four grade
nine students who will work together as a team to solve a mathematical problem or
explore a mathematical investigation. The mathematics coach for the team should also
attend the competition.

The registration fee is $3,500. You are encouraged to register on or before March 31,
2009 to secure your place in the competition. Please indicate bye-mail or telephone your
willingness to participate in this year's competition, as we are only able to accommodate
a limited number of schools. Cheques should be made payable to the Department of
Educational Studies..

The day of the competition begins with registration at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm. The
agenda includes the team's competition, a presentation from an interesting motivational
speaker, and the distribution of awards and trophies. Lunch will be provided during a
one- hour lunch break for the team and their coach.
