MENG 351 Machine Shop Lab: Drawings for Compressed Air Engine This engine converts compressed air

(or steam) to rotary mechanical power. The kinematics are quite different than an internal combustion engine: the piston-crank motion makes the cylinder rotate about a central axis, and this cylinder rotation covers and uncovers the intake and exhaust valve openings. The piston is lightly held to the upright by a compression spring on the backside; this compression keeps the valves shut and prevents leakage.
