1. Distance to markets, weight, and climate effect crop placement.

Distance to markets is considered for the amount of time it takes for the crop to spoil, weight effects the amount of cost used to ship, and climate is important because it effects how much the crops will yield. 2. When dairying you must be close to the market because you must deliver your diary before it spoils and it is more expensive to ship. 3. The two costs that are most important to the farmer are the cost of land versus the cost of transportation to the market. 4. It is important because it allows you to use all land as efciently as possible 5. 1. Soil is the same throughout the state 2. There are no external inuences to this state 3. The state has no intervening obstacles. I believe that these assumptions are not valid because every state that I know of has one of these properties. Also, soil is never exactly the same for the entire state. 6. Rings 1 and 3 are the only rings containing crops. Ring one is used for intensive agriculture which makes sense because the city must always have a steady supply of food and the more space taken up by it the higher the cost of shipping. Ring three is for extensive crops because the ring outside of it, animal ranching needs a lot of space and has very little shipping cost because the animals walk themselves

Part 2

1. A. I believe Colorado is a good example of a state that supports the Von Thunen model because it has very high density farming near its capital and lower density farming on the outer edges of the state. B. I believe that Michigan is an example of an area that doesn't follow the Von Thunen model because it grows the majority of its crops along it's borders C. I think that the premise of Von Thunen's model does hold true in that shipping determines the location of ones agriculture, but I think that his overall idea has to many assumptions so it cannot be used in many locations accurately. Reection I liked how this exercise allowed us to use math to actually calculate the placement of the different crops. I thought it was interesting that the Von Thunen model is still somewhat accurate after 180 years. I also thought it was strange that the model is made in a perfect circle whenever almost all states are in square. The one part I found that was confusing in this assignment was the application of rainfall and temperatures to the model we made.
