This unit plan will have the students reading the novel Romeo and juliet while pushing for analysis. The novel will be read and gone over, but while reading different chapters in the book, the students will take on a better understanding of the play and how the setting is so important. We will first start off with part of the teacher lecture, and read the play aloud during class time as we go along. Once we finish reading the play we will continue with the teacher lecture and relate the play to our more modern society. Class discussions will take place every day of this unit, and we will also discuss what were to happen if the play were taken place in a more modern society like today. We will watch the Romeo and Juliet movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and discuss differences in the movie vs. the play.

Students will understand more of what is going on in the novel as well as what is going on in the characters' minds, while also getting a bit of the students ideas out as well. Through this, the students will be able to think more on their own about the instances in the novel and write down ideas using their own analysis and when finished with the play and movie version, the students will be assigned a project to recreate using the technology tool of pixter.com. Each student will be responsible for creating their own modernized version of the play, Romeo and Juliet in comic book form using Pixter.com.
