EVALUATION OF FERROELECTRIC

CERAMIC - METAL COMPOSITE

INSTRUCTOR

DR. A.K. THAKUR

objectives

• To form a composite of nano Ni filler on micro

and nano LiNbO3 matrix.

• Study the magneto-electric and nonlinear

optical properties of the composite.

preparation

• Initial proposition – micro LNB matrix through

conventional ceramic route through solid state
reaction
Li2CO3 + Nb2O5 2LiNbO3 + CO2
and nano matrix preparation through citrate
route.
• Composite formation with 10, 15, 20, 25, 28, 30
volume percentages of nano Ni.
• Cold pressing sintering etc.

proposed preparation process
(solvothermal route)

• Li2CO3 (0.1334g) + Oxalic acid (0.35m/L) is stirred at room

temperature till a clear and colorless solution is obtained
(33ml solution).
• 0.48g Nb2O5(ultra-purity, 99.99%) powder is added to this.
• Calcined at 340oC for 10h in a teflon cup placed in a steel
autoclave.
• White precipitate filtered and washed in distilled water and
28% ammonia soln..
• Dried in air at 60oC.
• LNB powder (cubic crystal) is obtained.

reactions

Li2CO3 + C2H2O4.2H2O C2Li2O4 + 3H2O + CO2

4[Nb(C2O4)3]- + 14H2O + 2C2Li2O4 4LiNbO3 + 14H2C2O4 + O2

Nb2O5 + 6C2H2O4.2H2O 2[Nb(C2O4)3]- + 17H2O + 2H+

For 10g LNB – 2.5g (0.1185cc) LCO and 0.9g (0.2011) NBO is needed.
